WebRiders in California are permitted to filter (split lanes) only when the posted speed limit is 30 mph or less and no more than 10 mph faster than surrounding traffic; motorcyclists must be traveling no more than 10 mph faster than traffic flow when splitting lanes at 40 mph or less (and never faster than 30 mph).
